'Kids Know It' is a free website which covers a variety of subjects. It has many interesting topics and makes use of photographs, diagrams, illustrations and maps to present an absorbing if somewhat jumbled Frontpage crammed with ideas, games and trivia that most middle school children would appreciate when looking for information for a project or homework topic on any subject. I think of it as an online version of a childrens' encyclopedia. Links are easy to follow and there are plenty of opportunities to become lost on a search trail and while away time. Whatever this website is... it could certainly not be described as boring.
